Dr. Valentina Rognoli, head of the research team is guiding the research called Do-It-Yourself Materials where the possibility for designers to self made and design from the raw materials to the product cycle.
The research is aimed to build an entire material library from scratch. Each designer is invited to contribute to design their own material piece. The material is stored together with a recipe that allows replication based on open source rights and creative commons.
The XXXI cycle of the PhD in design is giving us the opportunity to improve knowledge around materials and materials innovation for product design.
Being the alma mater of the founders of Dínoma and one of the most prestigious universities in Latin America, Los Andes University has always been a place for teaching, educating future designers and doing research.
An international research group acting at the intersection of product design, materials science, social sciences, and engineering. We actively promote a unique ‘experience centered’ and DIY approach to materials, pushing the boundaries of material (driven) design. As a lab, we create theories, tools, and methods; pioneer design for material experiences.
